Profile IT - World Password Day 2025

Today is World Password Day, a timely reminder for Irish individuals and businesses alike to take password security seriously. At Profile Technology, we’ve seen first-hand how weak password practices leave companies vulnerable to costly cyberattacks, data breaches, and ransomware.

With cybercrime rising sharply across Ireland and beyond, it’s no longer enough to use “P@ssword123” and hope for the best.

🚨 Why Password Security Matters

  • 80% of hacking-related breaches are due to weak or stolen passwords.

  • Hackers use tools that can crack simple passwords in seconds.

  • One breached account can be the entry point for a full-blown ransomware attack.

✅ Tips for Stronger Passwords

  1. Use Passphrases Instead of short words, use a full phrase: “RedTractorRuns!UpHill2025” is far more secure than “Tractor1!”.

  2. Make It Long and Random Aim for at least 12 characters. The longer, the better. Combine uppercase, lowercase, numbers, and symbols.

  3. Never Reuse Passwords Each account should have a unique password. Reusing passwords across accounts puts everything at risk if one is breached.

  4. Enable Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) Always activate 2FA or MFA where possible. It adds a vital extra layer of protection.

  5. Update Passwords Regularly Especially for high-value accounts like email, finance, and admin access.

🛡️ Business Owners: Don’t Leave It to Chance

If you're managing a team, you need company-wide password policies and training. Many Irish SMEs don’t realise they’re at risk until it’s too late.

As a Managed IT provider, we help businesses across Ireland and beyond to:

  • Implement password management tools

  • Set and enforce secure policies

  • Monitor for breaches
